C. L. Max Nikias Inauguration

Delegates

Delegates from across the globe will be marching in the official processional at the inauguration of President Nikias. Delegates can represent another university or learned institution, the surrounding community, USC alumni, or they may be selected from within the university to represent the leadership of our students, parents or staff. Please note that this page only contains information for those who will be marching in the official processional. If you will be attending the ceremony as a spectator, please click here.

Assembly

All delegates will assemble on campus between 8:30 and 9:15 a.m. on the morning of Friday, October 15. At 9:15a.m. non-marching guests will be escorted to reserved seating in Alumni Park, and delegates will be lined up in preparation for the academic processional, which begins at 10:00 a.m.

We recommend you secure your belongings in your vehicle before arriving at your assembly point.

Assembly points for various delegates are listed below:

  • Other universities and learned societies. Assemble in Associates Park, behind Bovard Auditorium. You will check in across from the Ronald Tutor Campus Center and enjoy refreshments before being lined up according to the year of your institution’s founding. We ask that you provide your own regalia.
  • Students. Assemble inside Bovard Auditorium on the stage; check in at Associates Park, across from the Ronald Tutor Campus Center. Various student leaders have been selected to march in the processional, including representatives from ROTC, Student Government, Athletics, Religious Life and Visions & Voices. Some of you will be carrying banners and flags, most will not. You should plan on arriving no later than 9:00 a.m
  • Community. Assemble in Associates Park, Behind Bovard Auditorium. Check in across from the Ronald Tutor Campus Center. You will be led through Bovard Auditorium before the processional begins.
  • Alumni. Assemble in Associates Park. Check in across from the Ronald Tutor Campus Center. You will be led through Bovard Auditorium before the processional begins.
  • Staff. Assemble in Associates Park. Check in across from the Ronald Tutor Campus Center. You will be led through Bovard Auditorium before the processional begins.
  • Hospitals. Assemble in Associates Park. Check in across from the Ronald Tutor Campus Center. You will be led through Bovard Auditorium before the processional begins.

Processional

The academic processional will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will last about 30 minutes. All delegates will march from the front steps of Bovard Auditorium into Alumni Park. Each group of delegates will have at least one marshal who will lead you to the appropriate seat.

Student flag and banner bearers will receive separate instruction on their marching routes, as they will vary somewhat from flag to flag.

Installation Ceremony

The installation ceremony will begin immediately following the processional. It is at this ceremony that C. L. Max Nikias will be formally installed as the eleventh president of the university. The ceremony will at noon, at which time the academic flags, platform party and international flags will march back to Bovard.

Luncheon

At noon, following the recessional, all guests are invited to attend a celebratory luncheon held in McCarthy Quad. There are no reservations necessary for this lunch - all are welcome.
